A letter from a Father to a Son

Many years ago, my own father found a copy of this letter and gave it to me. For reasons too complex to get into here, it touched me. I have remembered most of it ever since. I was pleased, therefore, to find it on the Internet again. When I searched, I found about 5 different versions of it. Clearly people had been modifying it slightly to fit their own purposes. The version I reprint here is the version as close as I can remember it from the 1980s.

I’ve put a bunch of my photos up on BigStockPhoto.com. It seems like a pretty decent site. It lets photographers like me (and people who are WAY better than me) post stock photos and earn a commission whenever someone downloads them. You can search for my photos online and buy them relatively cheaply with a really liberal, royalty free license.

Hurricane isabel

Hurricane Isabel hit us last night. Using xplanet I generated some pseudo-satellite images of what it looked like.

These images are large. They’re not a lot of data (around 300-400K). They’re 2048×2048 pixels. We’re looking at the whole earth, after all.
